Manihi Rori

Kia ora Te Hiringa whānau

What a turn out to Manihi Road, 26 people. 18 of those young people. We had the biggest circle sharing and reflection time ever!

Lexi was new and Te Para had returned so we welcomed them both and heard a little of Te Para’s journeying around New Zealand with his whānau.

The tamariki from town appeared to need to run a bit, as they travelled for longer in the car. We had been there for a while so had time already to run around and had picked up a bit of rubbish. So after everyone had a chance to have a run around, we discussed the plan for the day. Namely to spot a nudibranch and to create a piece of art from rubbish collected.

It’s always a rude awakening to find this type of thing out there. The amount of fishing hooks and fishing line was crazy!

Always fun with Emily, to go spotting shore creatures as she has so much knowledge on what can be found out there.

Remember https://inaturalist.nz/home that we have used before. Anyone is welcome to add photos onto here of things they see in our area. If I remember correctly you can use [email protected] Rainbow18 is the password. Let me know if it doesn’t work for you and I can reset password 🙂 Here are a few photos that can be loaded on for identification. Emily was sure we spotted creatures close to nudibranch’s maybe not this exact species.

Some other amazing creatures

We dug a hole for a large piece of driftwood to display our artists work

The group photo which wasn’t quite the whole group!

There was a huge amount of rubbish collected in the end to create some art work. So we helped in a small to create a better environment for ourselves and the animals. It always feels good to cart away the rubbish and then it’s what to do with it that is the question? It’s never really away away so a good reminder to continually work on eliminating plastic from our lives. The Rubbish Trip website has great ideas http://therubbishtrip.co.nz/regional-shopping-guide/zero-waste-in-taranaki/ I have found https://intentionally.co.nz helpful too,  and just purchased reusable baking sheets. Please tell me any good tips you have!

 The art display was awesome!

Then it was time for closing circle and “story of the day”
